VP of Platform Engineering

This company is a profitable, Series A AI company selling to US financial institutions. Its platform automates customer service across several channels, and the CEO and CTO work closely with engineering every day.

This is a player-coach role: lead and grow the platform team while staying in the code and making the big architecture calls.

What you’ll do

•         Lead and grow the platform team (about 4 engineers today) while coding and reviewing work.

•         Own the core AI platform: agent runtime, LLM orchestration, retrieval, evaluation, integrations and the tools customers use to build agents.

•         Partner with the CEO and CTO on releases and new platform bets.

•         Raise speed, quality and reliability through tooling, testing gates and monitoring.

Must have

•         10–16 years in engineering, including 4–6 years leading teams.

•         Has scaled a team and company through growth stages (revenue, funding, headcount).

•         Production experience on the platform side of AI agents, LLM/ML infrastructure or conversational AI.

•         Still hands-on: coding, reviewing and making architecture decisions.

•         BS/BA in Computer Science.

Preferred

•         Series A–D startup experience; big-tech leaders only with an exceptional track record.

Tech

•         TypeScript, Python, LLMs and agents, distributed systems, cloud, ML infrastructure, retrieval, API design.

Base: $400,000 – $500,000

Location: San Francisco, onsite 5 days a week
